About Summit Point.
Summit Point. is a 2-piece doompunk band from Huntington, WV. The band is heavily influenced by midwest emo, hardcore, doom, and shoegaze. Their two studio releases, RESTLESS and SPIRAL, explore grief and healing, spite and forgiveness, in a fuzzed out wall of sound that complements the songs' emotional weight.
SPIRAL documents an emotional journey through feelings of bitterness and regret before ultimately landing on grief. Beginning with Reproach, the EP explores a damaging relationship with someone whose selfishness permeates every interaction. Reproach then segues into Nothing More, a short, punchy expression of frustration at a stalker's predatory behaviors. Then comes You, a high-energy punk banger shouting its grief over lost time with loved ones. The tracklist concludes with Settle, a dismal, unapologetically doomy reflection on mortality and loneliness.
SPIRAL follows Summit Point.'s 2021 debut, RESTLESS, which was featured on curated Spotify playlists like Release Radar and BANDS by music critic Kelsie Herzog. RESTLESS also attracted the attention of the Ironton Tribune, who invited Summit Point. to play their internationally acclaimed live performance series Press Room Recordings in a performance aired on December 11, 2021.
Emma Allen, the primary songwriter of the band, credits her study of American creative nonfiction as a major influence to her songwriting. Her lyricism aims to shed new light on the long-term psychological and social effects of damaging relationship dynamics. Justin Hawthorne, the drummer and producer of the band, has a prolific musical history as a member of Lure609, Hybrid Zero, and as a collaborator on other regional creative projects.
